Graduate Interns usually need to be paid at least the UK National Minimum Wage (NMW).
However some European graduates are eligible to register with schemes that give them a grant, and also an exemption from NMW. These candidates can accept an ‘allowance’ that can be below NMW. We always recommend that any package presented to such candidates amounts to at least NMW after the grant income has been taken into account.
It is important to note that graduates are temporarily accepting low pay in order to gain experience and training, and possibly with a view to a permanent position. We do not recommend graduate internships last longer than 6m.
International graduates being recruited into permanent positions will expect a competitive UK salary commensurate with their skills, qualifications and experience.
